The Time for Change
In 2008 47-year old democrat Babarack_obama.jpgrack Obama ran against 70-year old John Mccain of the republican party. Mccain's slogan, "Country first", was based off of his goals of reform, prosperity, and peace. This slogan, however, against Obama's was very weak. "Change We Can Believe In" was not only a very inspirational statement, but also very catchy just like a winning slogan should be. When people heard it they immediately thought of Obama and his promise for change. The slogan caught on to many people and was eventually used in everyday lingo. Posters were everywhere that had Obama's face in blue and red with the word "Change" on it. McCain's campaign was not as powerful. Another big contributor to Obama's win was the f
act that if he was elected he would be the first African American president in America. Some people voted only for this reason, mostly people who were undereducated on the election and people who just thought it would be cool to have a black president for a change. The Obama/Biden campaign was spreading faster than the swine flu while the McCain/Palin campaign was not moving on the right track. During this time period around the election, "Saturday Night Live" (SNL) aired specials on the two sides, emphasizing the poorly imitated character of Sarah Palin, played by Tina Fey. This had a negative impact on McCain and Palin's campaigning. The most notable reason of why Obama was elected was because he knew what was wrong in our country and he had the courage of fixing it. "That we are in the midst of crisis is now well understood. Our nation is at war against a far-reaching network of violence and hatred. Our economy is bjuxtaposition_palin.jpgadly weakened, a consequence of greed and irresponsibility on the part of some but also our collective failure to make hard choices and prepare the nation for a new age" (Obama). He had hope in the country and that's what people needed to hear after everything that had happened in the past 10 years including Hurelectoral_college_2008.pngricane Katrina and 9/11.
